Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxactiv is a brand name associated with two distinct pharmaceutical substances depending on the geographical market, and it is also used for certain dietary supplements. In several European markets, most notably Poland, Oxactiv is a brand for oxycodone hydrochloride, a potent semi-synthetic opioid analgesic developed by Mundipharma. It is typically formulated as prolonged-release tablets for the management of severe pain, acting primarily as a full agonist at the mu-opioid receptor to inhibit ascending pain pathways in the central nervous system. Conversely, in markets such as Greece and Egypt, Oxactiv has been used as a brand name for oxcarbazepine, an anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing medication developed by Janssen. Oxcarbazepine works primarily by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, which stabilizes hyperexcitable neuronal membranes and inhibits repetitive neuronal firing. Additionally, the name is utilized by some manufacturers (e.g., Activlab) for antioxidant dietary supplements containing vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Selenium.
