Oxaliplatin-loaded CalliSpheres is a drug-device combination used in Drug-Eluting Bead Transarterial Chemoembolization (D-TACE). It consists of CalliSpheres, which are biocompatible, non-resorbable ion-exchange microspheres, loaded with the platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent oxaliplatin. This system is designed for the localized treatment of liver metastases, specifically from neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). When injected into the hepatic artery, the beads embolize the tumor's blood supply while simultaneously providing a sustained, controlled release of oxaliplatin directly into the tumor tissue. This dual mechanism aims to maximize local drug concentration and ischemia-induced tumor necrosis while minimizing systemic toxicity. The development of this specific protocol is being led by Xiangya Hospital of Central South University in the DEBOXA clinical trial.
