Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OxaliTEX is a preclinical-stage small molecule prodrug conjugate being developed by OncoTEX Inc. in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin and MD Anderson Cancer Center. The drug consists of a tumor-targeting texaphyrin molecule conjugated to an oxaliplatin Pt(IV) prodrug. This design allows the drug to enter the body in an inactive form, localizing specifically to solid tumors via the texaphyrin vehicle, which also confers MRI-detectability for real-time treatment monitoring. Once within the tumor microenvironment, the conjugate releases active platinum chemotherapy, intended to overcome platinum resistance and minimize systemic toxicities associated with traditional agents like cisplatin or carboplatin. It is primarily being investigated for ovarian cancer, particularly platinum-resistant cases, as well as lung and colorectal cancers.
