Overview

Oxamic acid is a small molecule and the monoamide derivative of oxalic acid with the chemical formula C₂H₃NO₃. It is a white, water-soluble solid used primarily in research settings. Oxamic acid acts as an inhibitor of lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA), binding to the LDH-NADH complex and blocking its active site. This inhibition disrupts glycolysis by preventing the conversion of pyruvate to lactate in highly glycolytic cells[4]. Additionally, it serves as a precursor for carbamoyl radical generation in organic synthesis and has applications in polymer chemistry to increase water solubility of certain polymers[6]. Oxamic Acid is not approved for clinical use but is widely used experimentally.
