Overview

Oxaquin refers to two distinct pharmaceutical entities. First, it is a brand name for **moxifloxacin**, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic marketed by Highnoon Laboratories in Pakistan. Moxifloxacin is used to treat various bacterial infections, including community-acquired pneumonia, sinusitis, and skin infections, by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Second, Oxaquin (also known as **DNV3837** or **MCB-3837**) is an investigational, first-in-class quinolonyl-oxazolidinone antibiotic prodrug. It is converted in vivo to the active compound DNV3681, which exerts a hybrid mechanism of action by dually inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis (via DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV) and protein synthesis (via the ribosome and aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases). DNV3837 is specifically being developed for the treatment of *Clostridioides difficile* infections (CDI), as it demonstrates potent activity against Gram-positive pathogens while sparing beneficial intestinal *Bacteroides* species.
