Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OxC-beta is a proprietary feed and supplement active based on fully oxidized beta-carotene (OxBC), consisting predominantly of beta-carotene–oxygen copolymers that occur naturally when beta-carotene reacts with ambient oxygen and are produced industrially by controlled full oxidation of beta-carotene. OxC-beta acts as a non-antibiotic immunomodulator: it primes innate immune function by upregulating pattern-recognition and co‑receptor molecules such as Toll-like receptors, CD14, and LY96/MD2 to enhance pathogen sensing while concurrently downregulating pro‑inflammatory cytokines and NFκB‑associated signaling, thereby reducing excessive background inflammation without direct antimicrobial activity.[1][3] Developed and commercialized by Avivagen for use primarily in livestock and companion animals, OxC-beta is formulated into products such as premixes for poultry, swine, and dairy cattle, and pet supplements, where low parts‑per‑million in-feed doses improve growth performance, feed efficiency, mastitis and intramammary infection outcomes, and general health as an alternative to in‑feed antibiotic growth promoters.[1][3][11][14]
