Overview

OXD4 is a preclinical-stage small molecule neuroprotective compound being developed by Oxalys Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, with an initial focus on Huntington's disease. The compound was discovered using a proprietary drug discovery platform developed at MIT and Harvard Medical School designed to identify molecules that suppress the toxic effects of mutations causal to neurodegeneration. OXD4's mechanism of action involves inhibiting biological processes that accelerate brain aging, specifically by activating cellular quality-control mechanisms and reducing levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which can have degenerative impacts on the brain when chronically elevated. In 2014, the FDA granted OXD4 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of Huntington's disease.
