oxetacaine

Oxetacaine is a potent local anesthetic and antacid used primarily for the relief of pain associated with gastrointestinal conditions such as gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, heartburn, esophagitis, and hiatus hernia. It is typically administered orally in combination with antacids (such as aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide) to provide both mucosal anesthesia and acid neutralization. Oxetacaine acts by inhibiting gastric acid secretion through suppression of gastrin secretion and exerts a strong local anesthetic effect on the gastric mucosa by blocking nerve conduction via inhibition of sodium ion permeability in nerve membranes. Its unique chemical properties allow it to remain effective even in acidic environments where other local anesthetics may degrade. Oxetacaine is reported to be significantly more potent than lignocaine or cocaine as a local anesthetic.
