Overview

Oxette is a non-electronic, breath-actuated oral nicotine inhaler originally developed by Kind Consumer Limited and later commercialized under the brand name Voke. Designed as a safer alternative to smoking and an aid for smoking cessation, the device delivers a metered aerosol dose of nicotine directly to the lungs upon inhalation without the use of electronics, batteries, heat, tobacco, or combustion. The technology mimics the design of pharmaceutical metered-dose inhalers, with a valve that actuates at low inhalation flow rates similar to cigarette smoking to replicate the sensory and behavioral rituals of smoking. Oxette (as Voke) received regulatory approval from the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in 2014 as a licensed medicine for tobacco dependence and was commercially launched in 2019. Following Kind Consumer's insolvency in 2020, the asset was acquired by Ayrton Saunders, which received MHRA approval for a re-engineered, next-generation version of the Voke system in 2024.
