Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxiconazole nitrate solid lipid nanoparticles gel is an investigational topical antifungal formulation developed by Minia University. It consists of oxiconazole nitrate, a small molecule imidazole derivative, encapsulated within solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) and incorporated into a Carbopol gel base. This delivery system is specifically designed to enhance the therapeutic effectiveness of the drug by improving skin penetration and providing sustained drug release. Oxiconazole nitrate exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes, by targeting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase. In clinical assessments, this novel SLN-based gel has demonstrated superior clinical improvement, better patient satisfaction, and significantly fewer side effects compared to conventional marketed products like Tinox cream for treating various tinea infections, including tinea pedis, tinea versicolor, and tinea corporis.
