Overview

Oxorni is a combination pharmaceutical product containing the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ofloxacin and the nitroimidazole antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent ornidazole. Developed and marketed by Makshi Healthcare, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of mixed infections, particularly gastrointestinal infections such as infectious diarrhea and dysentery, as well as certain gynecological and respiratory tract infections. Ofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. Ornidazole is reduced to active metabolites in anaerobic environments, which then cause DNA strand breakage and inhibit protein synthesis in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. This dual mechanism provides broad-spectrum coverage against both aerobic and anaerobic pathogens.
