Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxotremorine-M (oxotremorine methiodide) is a quaternary amine derivative of oxotremorine that acts as a potent, non-selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (mAChR) agonist. It is widely utilized as a pharmacological research tool to study cholinergic signaling, synaptic plasticity, and the pathophysiology of neurological disorders such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, and dystonia. In addition to its primary agonist activity at muscarinic receptors (M1, M2, M3, M4, and M5), oxotremorine-M has been shown to exhibit nicotinic receptor agonist activity and directly potentiate NMDA-mediated ion currents. It is primarily sold as a research-use-only reagent.
