Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxprofen is a novel formulation of ibuprofen developed by Oxford Pharmascience using its proprietary OXPzero technology. This technology utilizes Layered Double Hydroxides (LDH) to form a molecular complex with ibuprofen, which is designed to mask the drug's acidic properties and provide a non-irritating delivery to the gastrointestinal tract. By preventing direct contact between the acidic ibuprofen and the gastric mucosa, Oxprofen aims to significantly reduce the incidence of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers and irritation while maintaining the same pharmacokinetic profile and analgesic efficacy as standard ibuprofen. The product has been evaluated in clinical trials for its ability to provide pain relief with a superior gastrointestinal safety profile compared to conventional ibuprofen formulations.
