OXPzero naproxen

OXPzero naproxen (also known as OXP002) is a novel, gastrointestinal-safe formulation of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) naproxen, developed by Oxford PharmaScience. The formulation utilizes the proprietary OXPzero™ technology, which complexes the drug with a layered double hydroxide (LDH) structure. This mechanism is designed to sequester the naproxen molecule during its passage through the stomach, thereby minimizing direct contact with the gastric mucosa and reducing the risk of NSAID-induced gastric ulceration and irritation. Upon reaching the small intestine, the drug is released, providing systemic analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects equivalent to standard naproxen. OXPzero naproxen acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, which are responsible for the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. The technology also provides taste-masking properties, potentially allowing for liquid or chewable dosage forms.
