OXU-001

OXU-001 is a sustained-release formulation of dexamethasone acetate, delivered via biodegradable microspheres known as Oxuspheres. It is designed for targeted administration to the posterior suprachoroidal space of the eye using the proprietary Oxulumis illuminated microcatheter system. The drug provides long-lasting anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effects, with preclinical and early clinical data suggesting therapeutic activity lasting up to 12 months from a single administration. OXU-001 is being developed primarily for retinal diseases such as diabetic macular edema (DME), retinal vein occlusion (RVO), and uveitis, aiming to reduce treatment burden compared to current therapies that require more frequent dosing. The mechanism of action is based on the corticosteroid dexamethasone’s ability to suppress inflammation by binding glucocorticoid receptors in ocular tissues[2][3][4][5][6].
