Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxycodone HCl beta (brand name: Oxycodon-HCl beta) is a once-daily, prolonged-release oral tablet formulation of oxycodone hydrochloride, a semi-synthetic opioid analgesic. Developed and marketed by betapharm Arzneimittel GmbH, it is approved in Germany for the treatment of severe pain in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older that requires management with opioid analgesics. The formulation is distinguished by its unique pharmacokinetic profile, which maintains a plateau for approximately 10 hours after an initial 4-hour rise, allowing for effective 24-hour pain control with a single daily dose. As a small molecule opioid, it primarily acts as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptor (MOR) in the central nervous system to provide analgesic effects. It is available in strengths of 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg.
