Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxydrops is a topical otic solution developed and marketed by Chethana Pharmaceuticals, primarily used as a cerumenolytic and antiseptic for ear conditions. The active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide (typically at a concentration of 1.5% w/v), which acts as an oxidizing agent. When applied to the ear canal, it releases nascent oxygen upon contact with cerumen (earwax) and tissues. This process creates an effervescent action that mechanically disintegrates and softens impacted earwax, facilitating its removal. Additionally, the generation of reactive oxygen species provides a broad-spectrum, non-specific antimicrobial effect by damaging microbial cell membranes, proteins, and DNA, making it useful for managing minor outer ear infections such as otitis externa.
