Overview

This is a **combination therapy** consisting of five agents: - **Oxygen:** An inhaled gas used to treat or prevent hypoxemia by increasing oxygen saturation in the blood. - **Methylprednisolone:** A synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid used for its potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. - **Ipratropium bromide:** A short-acting muscarinic antagonist (SAMA)/anticholinergic bronchodilator that blocks acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors, resulting in relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and reduced bronchoconstriction[1][3][9]. - **Albuterol:** A short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (SABA) bronchodilator that relaxes airway smooth muscle via stimulation of beta-2 adrenergic receptors, improving airflow and reducing bronchospasm[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. - **Azithromycin:** A macrolide antibiotic that binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and exhibiting both antimicrobial and some immunomodulatory properties. This combination is not available as a single fixed-dose pharmaceutical product but may be prescribed together for patients with severe respiratory conditions (such as acute exacerbation of COPD, severe pneumonia, or other serious lung infections), especially when complicated by infection and inflammation.
