Overview

Oxygen-15 water is a radiopharmaceutical tracer used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to measure and quantify regional blood flow (perfusion). In the context of clinical research conducted by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), it is utilized as a diagnostic tool to evaluate the vascular characteristics and biological activity of tumors, such as renal cell carcinomas in patients with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease.
