Oxygen-hydrogen gas mixture is an investigational inhaled gas therapy consisting of molecular hydrogen (H2) delivered alongside oxygen (O2) and nitrogen (N2) as a carrier/diluent. Developed by the University Hospital Hradec Kralove, this medical gas mixture is designed to selectively scavenge cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly hydroxyl radicals, thereby reducing oxidative stress associated with ischemia-reperfusion injury. It has been evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (EudraCT 2012-004406-10) to determine whether inhalation of the mixture during primary percutaneous coronary angioplasty (PCI) can reduce residual myocardial damage compared to conventional oxygen therapy in adult patients experiencing acute transmural myocardial infarction.
