Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The oxygen-ozone mixture is a gaseous therapeutic agent composed of medical-grade oxygen and ozone (O3), primarily utilized as a minimally invasive treatment for lumbar pain and intervertebral disc degeneration. Administered via intramuscular-paravertebral or intradiscal injection, the mixture exerts anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects by modulating oxidative stress, inhibiting pro-inflammatory mediators, and reducing nerve irritation associated with discopathy. The therapeutic gas is typically generated on-site using medical ozone generators at concentrations ranging from 10–20 μg/mL of ozone. It has been extensively studied in Western Europe, particularly in Italy, for spinal conditions including disc herniation and chronic low back pain.
