Overview

This investigational combination therapy consists of **oxymetazoline**, a topical nasal decongestant, and **triamcinolone acetonide**, an intranasal corticosteroid. It is being evaluated by the **Washington University School of Medicine** in a Phase 2 clinical trial known as **STEROID** (Steroid Treatment for Elimination of Rebound Obstruction From Intranasal Decongestants). The therapy employs a standardized titration protocol designed to eliminate patient dependence on topical decongestants (a condition known as rhinitis medicamentosa). Oxymetazoline functions as a small molecule alpha-adrenergic agonist that induces vasoconstriction to provide immediate relief from nasal obstruction. Triamcinolone acetonide acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to reduce underlying mucosal inflammation and prevent the rebound congestion typically associated with the withdrawal of decongestants. The treatment is administered as an intranasal spray using a serial dilution method.
