Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxymorphone DETERx is an investigational abuse-deterrent, extended-release oral formulation of the potent semi-synthetic opioid analgesic oxymorphone, designed to provide prolonged analgesia for moderate to severe chronic pain while reducing common routes of tampering. Like other oxymorphone products, it acts as a full agonist at mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, producing analgesia and sedation but also carrying class-typical risks of respiratory depression, dependence, and abuse. The DETERx technology (microsphere-in-capsule lipid-based formulation) has been used commercially with oxycodone to maintain extended-release pharmacokinetics even after crushing or chewing, and oxymorphone DETERx applies the same platform to oxymorphone to achieve abuse-deterrent properties and flexible administration options.
