Overview

Oxyphencyclimine is a synthetic anticholinergic and antimuscarinic agent used primarily for the treatment of peptic ulcer disease and gastrointestinal spasms. It acts as an antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (M1, M2, and M3 subtypes), thereby inhibiting vagally mediated reflexes by blocking the action of acetylcholine. This results in reduced gastric acid secretion and pronounced antispasmodic effects on smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal tract. Oxyphencyclimine was marketed under the brand name Daricon but has been discontinued in some regions such as the USA[1][2][3][4][5].
