Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxyplastine 46% zinc oxide ointment is an over-the-counter topical skin protectant containing a high concentration of zinc oxide in an ointment base with excipients such as castor oil, lanolin, calcium hydroxide, beeswax, and perfume.[1][4][9][15] It is primarily indicated for prevention and treatment of skin irritation and inflammation, especially diaper (nappy) rash in infants, and is also used for minor skin injuries and for protecting peristomal or macerated skin exposed to moisture.[1][3][4][9][15] The high zinc oxide content forms an occlusive, absorbent barrier that shields the skin from wetness and irritants, provides mild astringent and antiseptic effects, reduces inflammation, and promotes healing of superficial lesions.[1][3][5][6][11] The lanolin- and oil-based vehicle confers strong adherence and emollient properties, enhancing barrier function and maintaining skin hydration while the product remains preservative- and colorant-free in common European formulations.[1][3][4]
