oxypolygelatin

Gelifundol is a plasma volume expander whose active ingredient is oxypolygelatin, a cross-linked modified gelatin derived from bovine collagen with an average molecular weight of approximately 30 to 35 kDa. Developed and manufactured by Biotest Pharma GmbH, it is administered as a 5.5% intravenous infusion solution. As a colloid, Gelifundol provides isovolemic volume replacement and is used in perioperative and cardiac surgery settings, including as a priming solution for cardiopulmonary bypass circuits. It has a short plasma half-life of 1–2 hours and does not significantly affect hemostatic mechanisms beyond dilution of clotting factors. In clinical trials, it has been evaluated as a comparator to other plasma substitutes, such as dextran-70, to assess its effects on systemic inflammatory mediator response, myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury, and haemodynamic variables in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
