Oxysept 1 Step is a preservative-free contact lens care system designed for the disinfection and neutralization of soft contact lenses, including silicone hydrogel lenses. Developed by Abbott Medical Optics (now part of Johnson & Johnson Vision), the system utilizes a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution as a potent oxidizing agent to eliminate a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and Acanthamoeba. To prevent ocular irritation from residual peroxide, the system incorporates a delayed-neutralization tablet containing the enzyme catalase. This tablet is engineered with a coating that allows disinfection to occur for a specific duration before the catalase is released to break down the peroxide into water and oxygen. The formulation also includes vitamin B-12 as a color indicator, which turns the solution pink to provide visual confirmation that the neutralizing tablet has been added and the process is underway.
