Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ozanimod is an oral, small molecule immunomodulatory drug used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS)—including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease—as well as moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults. It acts as a selective sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator with high affinity for S1P receptor subtypes 1 and 5. By binding these receptors, ozanimod causes internalization of S1P1 on lymphocytes, preventing their egress from lymphoid tissues and thereby reducing the number of circulating lymphocytes that can contribute to neuroinflammation in MS or inflammation in ulcerative colitis. Ozanimod was developed by Receptos (acquired by Celgene), which is now part of Bristol Myers Squibb.
