Overview

Ozenoxacin is a non-fluorinated quinolone antibiotic used as a topical cream for the treatment of impetigo, a highly contagious bacterial skin infection. It is approved for use in adults and children 2 months of age and older. Ozenoxacin acts by inhibiting two essential bacterial enzymes involved in DNA replication—DNA gyrase A (gyrA) and topoisomerase IV (parC)—leading to disruption of DNA processes such as supercoiling, relaxation, condensation, and decatenation. This dual inhibition results in rapid bactericidal activity against susceptible organisms including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. The drug demonstrates negligible systemic absorption when applied topically[1][2][3][5][6][8].
