ozone + betamethasone sodium phosphate + lidocaine is a combination therapy investigated by Tanta University for the management of pain and inflammation in patients with knee osteoarthritis. This therapeutic regimen involves the intra-articular injection of medical-grade ozone gas (typically at a concentration of 25 μg/ml) in combination with the potent corticosteroid betamethasone sodium phosphate and the local anesthetic lidocaine (lignocaine). Ozone is thought to exert therapeutic effects by modulating oxidative stress, inhibiting inflammatory cytokines, and improving local tissue oxygenation. Betamethasone provides sustained anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive action by activating glucocorticoid receptors, while lidocaine provides immediate, short-term analgesia by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels. This specific combination was evaluated in a comparative clinical study against plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) to assess its efficacy in improving joint function and reducing pain scores.
