This combination is produced using specialized generators that convert pure oxygen into a controlled amount of ozone. The resulting gas is used in "ozone therapy," which has been researched and applied for over a century in various fields of medicine. Mechanistically, the therapeutic effects are attributed primarily to ozone, which acts as an oxidizing agent with multiple biological actions: - Antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, yeasts, and viruses by damaging cell walls or protein shells. - Anti-inflammatory effects through modulation of inflammatory mediators and reduction of prostaglandin synthesis. - Antioxidant effects by stimulating endogenous antioxidant systems and correcting oxidative stress. - Immunomodulatory properties via stimulation of interferon production and immune cell activation. - Enhancement of tissue oxygenation by improving red blood cell flexibility and increasing tissue delivery. The main clinical applications include treatment for musculoskeletal disorders (e.g., low back pain, osteoarthritis), chronic infections (including diabetic foot ulcers), wound healing support, immune system modulation (e.g., HIV viral load reduction), circulatory disorders, pain management, inflammation reduction, and adjunctive therapy for some respiratory conditions. Administration routes include topical application (gas or ozonated water/oil), infiltrative injection into tissues or joints, autohemotherapy (mixing with blood ex vivo then reinfusing intravenously), rectal insufflation/enema for systemic absorption via mucosa. While generally considered safe when administered within defined therapeutic windows using certified equipment under professional supervision—with rare adverse events—there are contraindications such as pregnancy or certain metabolic conditions. Inhalation is not recommended due to potential lung toxicity[1][2][3][4][6][8].
