Ozone + oxygen refers to a medical gas mixture composed of ozone (O3) and medical-grade oxygen (O2), typically in concentrations such as 95% O2 and 5% O3. The main clinical applications include treatment for musculoskeletal disorders (e.g., low back pain, osteoarthritis), chronic infections (including diabetic foot ulcers), wound healing support, immune system modulation (e.g., HIV viral load reduction), circulatory disorders, pain management, inflammation reduction, and adjunctive therapy for some respiratory conditions. Administration routes include topical application (gas or ozonated water/oil), infiltrative injection into tissues or joints, autohemotherapy (mixing with blood ex vivo then reinfusing intravenously), rectal insufflation/enema for systemic absorption via mucosa. While generally considered safe when administered within defined therapeutic windows using certified equipment under professional supervision—with rare adverse events—there are contraindications such as pregnancy or certain metabolic conditions. Inhalation is not recommended due to potential lung toxicity[1][2][3][4][6][8].
