ozurdex

Ozurdex is a brand-name, sustained-release intravitreal implant containing 0.7 mg dexamethasone, a potent synthetic corticosteroid. The implant uses the NOVADUR solid polymer (PLGA) matrix to provide controlled release of dexamethasone directly into the vitreous humor of the eye over several months. Dexamethasone acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines and mediators such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and prostaglandins, thereby reducing edema, capillary leakage, fibrin deposition, and migration of inflammatory cells. Ozurdex is primarily indicated for the treatment of macular edema following branch or central retinal vein occlusion (BRVO/CRVO), non-infectious uveitis affecting the posterior segment of the eye, and diabetic macular edema[1][4][5][7].
