Drug intelligence / Profile preview
P-001111 is an investigational, orally active iron-chelating agent being developed by Pharmacosmos A/S for the treatment of systemic iron overload. It is specifically designed to address iron accumulation in patients with conditions such as thalassemia, transfusion-dependent myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and chronic haemolysis, where repeated blood transfusions or increased iron absorption lead to toxic levels of iron in vital organs. The molecule functions by binding to excess ferric iron (Fe3+) to form stable, non-toxic complexes that are subsequently excreted from the body, thereby preventing oxidative stress and organ damage. As of early 2025, P-001111 is undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation (e.g., trial 2025-525025-12-00) to determine its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile in both healthy volunteers and affected patient populations.
