P-045 is a novel, preclinical-stage small molecule anti-infective being developed by Pangea Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). The drug functions as a FimH antagonist, targeting the mannose-binding lectin located at the tip of type 1 pili in uropathogenic *Escherichia coli* (UPEC). By inhibiting the adhesion of bacteria to the bladder epithelium, P-045 prevents the colonization and invasion of host tissues, facilitating the natural clearance of the pathogen by urine flow. This anti-adhesive approach aims to provide a non-bactericidal alternative or adjunct to traditional antibiotics, potentially reducing the risk of developing antibiotic resistance and offering a new therapeutic option for both acute and recurrent UTIs.
