Overview

**p-chlorophenylalanine** is a synthetic amino acid derivative that acts as a selective and irreversible inhibitor of **tryptophan hydroxylase**, the rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of serotonin. By inhibiting this enzyme, p-chlorophenylalanine depletes serotonin in the brain. It is primarily used in research to study serotonin pathways and the physiological and behavioral consequences of serotonin depletion. p-chlorophenylalanine is not approved for human clinical use and is distributed for laboratory or research purposes only[2][6].
