P. vivax SPZ is a whole-parasite malaria vaccine candidate developed by Sanaria. It utilizes whole *Plasmodium vivax* sporozoites to induce pre-erythrocytic immunity, aiming to prevent the parasite from establishing a liver-stage infection and progressing to symptomatic blood-stage disease. This vaccine is intended for both prophylactic vaccination and use in controlled human malaria infection (CHMI) models to evaluate the efficacy of other drugs and vaccines. It leverages the same platform technology as Sanaria's PfSPZ vaccine for *P. falciparum*, which typically involves radiation-attenuated sporozoites to ensure they are metabolically active but unable to replicate or cause disease.
