Overview

P17 is a synthetic 15-mer peptide designed to inhibit the activity of Transforming Growth Factor beta 1 (TGF-β1). Developed by Digna Biotech in collaboration with Flamel Technologies (now Avadel Pharmaceuticals), the drug was formulated using Flamel's Medusa® platform, a proprietary drug delivery system based on self-assembling polyaminoacid nanoparticles, to enable sustained release and improve bioavailability. P17 functions by binding directly to TGF-β1, thereby preventing the cytokine from interacting with its receptors and triggering the signaling cascades responsible for tissue fibrosis, autoimmune responses, and tumor progression. Preclinical research has focused on its potential to treat liver fibrosis, scleroderma, and various cancers, although clinical development has largely stalled following shifts in corporate strategy by its developers.
