p24CE DNA vaccine + interleukin-12 DNA vaccine is a combinatorial therapeutic DNA vaccine regimen developed by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine consists of a plasmid encoding conserved elements (CE) of the HIV-1 p24gag protein (p24CE) and a plasmid encoding interleukin-12 (IL-12) which acts as a genetic adjuvant. The p24CE immunogen is designed to focus the immune response on highly conserved regions of the HIV-1 capsid protein to avoid decoy epitopes and induce broad cellular immunity. The regimen is administered via intramuscular electroporation using the TriGrid Delivery System to enhance plasmid uptake and expression. It is being studied as part of a multi-component strategy to induce HIV remission in individuals on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
