p27 siRNA is a proprietary small interfering RNA (siRNA) drug developed by Sound Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). It is designed to inhibit the protein cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1B, also known as p27Kip1. By inhibiting p27Kip1, the drug aims to stimulate the regeneration of auditory hair cells, offering a potential regenerative therapy for sensorineural hearing loss. The development of this drug has been supported by grant funding from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR).
