P27A is a novel synthetic peptide-based malaria vaccine candidate targeting the blood stage of Plasmodium falciparum infection. Developed by the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) in collaboration with the University of Lausanne, the vaccine consists of a 104-amino acid sequence derived from the Trophozoite Exported Protein 1 (TEX1), also known as PFF0165c. P27A is designed to stimulate the production of antigen-specific antibodies and T-cell responses. These antibodies recognize TEX1 on the surface of infected erythrocytes and inhibit parasite multiplication through antibody-dependent cellular inhibition (ADCI). Clinical evaluation has focused on formulations using Alhydrogel (alum) or GLA-SE (a TLR4 agonist) adjuvants to enhance immunogenicity in both malaria-naive and pre-exposed populations.
