Overview

p28 is a synthetic, 28-amino acid peptide derived from the bacterial protein azurin. It functions as a cell-penetrating peptide with anticancer properties. The mechanism of action involves selective entry into cancer cells, where it binds to and stabilizes the tumor suppressor protein p53, leading to increased apoptosis and inhibition of tumor growth. Preclinical studies have shown that p28 can induce cancer cell death without significant toxicity to normal cells. It has been investigated primarily for use in solid tumors and recurrent or refractory pediatric brain tumors.
