Overview

P3001 is a **novel mucolytic agent** developed as an improved alternative to N-acetylcysteine (NAC) for treating airway muco-obstructive diseases. It functions as a **reducing agent** that breaks disulfide bonds in mucin polymers, thereby reducing the viscoelasticity of airway mucus and improving mucociliary clearance. P3001 demonstrates **superior reducing activity** compared to NAC, acting faster and at lower concentrations. In preclinical studies, P3001 significantly decreased lung mucus burden in mouse models of muco-obstructive disease and was more effective than DNase in cystic fibrosis sputum. The compound showed sustained therapeutic effects for up to 2 hours in CF cell culture models and demonstrated a better safety profile than NAC with no signs of inflammation or epithelial damage at therapeutic doses. P3001 is designed for **inhaled delivery** and represents a potential breakthrough in mucolytic therapy for conditions including **chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, and cystic fibrosis**.
