Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The p40-EBI3 complex is a novel, non-conventional heterodimeric cytokine candidate belonging to the interleukin-12 (IL-12) family, composed of the p40 and Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3 (EBI3) subunits. Developed by researchers at The Catholic University of Korea, this immunoprotein complex acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic agent. It functions by binding to the IL-12Rβ1 and gp130 receptor complex, simultaneously regulating STAT3 and STAT5 signaling pathways. This dual regulation leads to the suppression of pro-inflammatory T helper 17 (Th17) cells and plasma B cells, while promoting the expansion of regulatory T (Treg) and regulatory B (Breg) cells. The p40-EBI3 complex has demonstrated therapeutic potential in preclinical models of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including systemic sclerosis (SSc), rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis.
