P47K-WAS-MR is a recombinant artificial silk-elastin-like protein (SELP) developed for orthopedic regenerative medicine, specifically for the repair of symptomatic meniscus tears. It is composed of repetitive peptide units derived from silk fibroin and elastin, providing a unique combination of mechanical stability and elasticity. In clinical applications, such as the CARP-SE trial, the protein is applied to the suture site during meniscus repair surgery to act as a bioresorbable scaffold. This scaffold facilitates cell migration and tissue healing in the avascular (no-bleeding) zone of the meniscus, where natural repair mechanisms are often insufficient due to poor blood supply.
