Overview

P4M01-SIBO is a preclinical-stage synthetic antimicrobial peptide-based therapy being developed by P4 Microbiome, a subsidiary of D&D Pharmatech, for the treatment of Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and potentially Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The active ingredient is KSL-W, a synthetic decapeptide (KKVVFWVKFK) originally developed by the US Army Dental and Trauma Research Detachment. KSL-W acts by physically disrupting bacterial cell membranes, leading to rapid cell lysis and the correction of underlying dysbiosis. Unlike conventional antibiotics, KSL-W is designed to selectively target pathogenic bacteria while maintaining healthy microflora, and it rapidly degrades in the stomach to minimize systemic exposure and prevent harm to the colonic microbiome.
