p53-specific T cells are an autologous adoptive cell therapy developed by a consortium including the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT), the University of Heidelberg, and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). This therapy is designed to target cancers that overexpress or harbor mutations in the p53 tumor suppressor protein, a common driver in colorectal carcinoma. The therapeutic process involves harvesting a patient's own T-lymphocytes from peripheral blood and reactivating them *ex vivo* using synthetic peptides corresponding to immunogenic regions of the p53 protein. This reactivation is facilitated by the patient's own dendritic cells acting as antigen-presenting cells. Once expanded and primed to recognize p53 antigens, the activated T cells are re-infused into the patient intravenously to mediate a targeted anti-tumor immune response against cells expressing the p53 antigen.
