Drug intelligence / Profile preview
p66Shc siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of p66Shc, a redox-sensitive and pro-apoptotic adaptor protein encoded by the SHC1 gene. p66Shc plays a key role in regulating mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. In preclinical studies, p66Shc siRNA has been encapsulated in poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles to improve delivery and stability. This therapeutic approach is being investigated by researchers at Chungnam National University for various indications, including N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-induced spasms (infantile spasms), osteoarthritis, and neuropathic pain, where it has demonstrated efficacy in reducing oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neuroinflammation.
