**P7C3-A20** is a synthetic small molecule neuroprotective and proneurogenic compound belonging to the aminopropyl carbazole class. It acts primarily as an activator of nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, thereby enhancing nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) synthesis, which is critical for neuronal survival and cellular metabolism[4][5][6][8]. P7C3-A20 has demonstrated the ability in multiple preclinical models to protect mature neurons from injury, promote neurogenesis (the growth of new neurons), and reduce neuronal apoptosis and autophagy in settings of neurological injury, such as traumatic brain injury, ischemic stroke, neurodegenerative diseases (including Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and potentially Alzheimer’s disease), and intracerebral hemorrhage[1][2][4][5][6]. In animal models, P7C3-A20 improves behavioral and cognitive outcomes after acute and chronic brain insults, and shows both anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects—some of which are Sirt3-dependent[5]. It is not currently approved for human use and remains investigational.
