Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PA401 is a recombinant engineered form of human chemokine interleukin-8 (CXCL8), developed as a biologic anti-inflammatory therapeutic. It acts by binding to glycosaminoglycans with higher affinity than wild-type IL-8, thereby inhibiting the infiltration and activation of neutrophils—a key driver in acute and chronic lung inflammation. This mechanism disrupts neutrophilic lung inflammation and normalizes plasma inflammatory markers. PA401 was developed using ProtAffin Biotechnologie's CellJammer technology as a first-in-class parenteral therapy for conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), adult respiratory distress syndrome, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia, reperfusion injury, rheumatoid arthritis, and delayed graft function[1][2][5].
