Overview

Paclical Vet (also known as Paccal Vet) is a nanoparticle micellar formulation of the cytotoxic agent paclitaxel, specifically developed for veterinary oncology by Oasmia Pharmaceutical. Traditional paclitaxel formulations require the use of Cremophor EL, a solvent that causes severe hypersensitivity reactions in dogs. Paclical Vet utilizes a proprietary excipient called XR-17, a surfactant-based derivative of retinoic acid, to create water-soluble nanoparticles. This technology eliminates the need for Cremophor EL and the associated corticosteroid premedication, allowing for safer and more efficient intravenous administration. As a microtubule inhibitor, the drug binds to tubulin, stabilizing microtubules and preventing the depolymerization necessary for cell division, which leads to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in neoplastic cells. It was primarily developed for the treatment of various canine cancers, including mammary carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
